Regional Benchmarking Report (2013): Challenges and Opportunities for SWM in the MENA Region



The purpose of this report is to update the current waste management in MENA region, in the regional level, which is covered by GIZ - SWEEP-Net. The current paper investigates the condition of waste management in countries members of SWEEP-Net, namely Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, and Yemen, compares data between the countries, and drives important conclusions on the challenges and opportunities of the sector. At the same time, the report provides a picture of the overall evolution of waste management in the GIZ–SWEEP-Net area, demonstrating regional achievements and progress made for the period 2010 - 2013. It is important to notice that this
reports utilizes the data collection and the national reports created for all the SWEEP-Net country members, thus it is an overall summary of the current waste management conditions.
